The Issues
One of the main issues with ballast water is that when the ship is in one
port it sucks the water up, and when it arrives at it's destination it empties
the ballast water out; which means that the ship sucks up some of the marine
wildlife from one port, and empties them out in another
port.
There's a big problem in the Derwent Estuary in Southern Tasmania
where the Northern Pacific Sea Star is reeking havoc.
